Mick introduces Irma Thomas appropriately dressed for the occasion in her custom Vintage VinylTM BayouWear® to sing the song that yielded the Rollings Stones' first US Top-10 hit, Time Is On My Side.
The Rolling Stones recorded Thomas' April 1964 recording of Time Is On My Side within days of hearing it. Her "big chorus, blues flavour and callous dismissal of a lover" suited the band. They recorded the song in June 1964 with Mick Jagger, even imitating Thomas' ad-libs. It was released as a single in the US on September 25,1964, and was included the following month on their US album 12 X 5. It became the band's first top ten hit in the United States. On May 2 at Jazz Fest 2024, the two traded those now-famous ad libs on stage to a capacity crowd. It was the first time they'd seen each other for 50 years.
